Summer Book Passport and Reading Chart

Summer Book Passport and Reading Chart

Summer is upon us and we're all ready for a little escape.  Even if your family is staying close to home this summer, you can experience the joy of getting away: books have the power to take us anywhere! Introducing kids to stories set all over the planet is like staying with a good friend in every new city and seeing the world through their eyes.  It's fun and it expands their world view, empathy, and appreciation for other cultures.

With that thought in mind, we've created two printable downloads to help inspire and track literary travels this summer: a book passport and a world map poster.

Inside the passport, you'll find space to chronicle all the books you read.  Design your own book covers, list the countries the books were set in, rate how much you liked them, and keep notes of things the books made you curious about.

The poster can be printed as large as 24x36 inches for the whole family to share, or on a smaller scale so everyone can have their own.  Color the countries in, draw your favorite characters where they live, or leave a sticker in each of the places you read about.  Make it your own!

While we firmly believe that reading is its own reward, prizes just make things more fun.  Read 16 books this summer - 2 set in each continent plus 2 set in imaginary lands - and you'll earn a new book from Little Heirloom Books.*  Doesn't that sound like the perfect way to transition from a fun summer into a lovely, bookish fall?

We can't wait to get started!  If you love this, tell your friends!  Let's all lift each other up by sharing the tools we have and love.  And be sure to share what you're reading this summer to inspire and encourage others by using the hashtag #asummerforthebooks.  We'll see you there!

*To redeem your book: Color in the 16 countries you read about on the map in the center of your passport or on your wall map. (Don't forget to add your fantasy places!)  Once you've finished, take a photo with your colored map and share it online between now and August 31, 2020.  Remember to tag us @littleheirloombooks to receive your book credit.  Readers who successfully complete the challenge will receive a $10 credit toward the purchase of any book or item in the Little Heirloom Books online shop.  Limited to a $20 total credit per household.
